This is a twentieth-century painting of a voyage taken by Hudson’s Bay Company trader Archibald McDonald on the Fraser River in 1828. After the HBC-North West Company merger in 1821, McDonald was sent to the Columbia River basin to trade. He rose to be the chief trader at several forts and served as deputy governor of the Red River colony.
