- Page 223 →Minnie Earl Sears (1873-1933). Pioneer in cataloging and library science education, first at University of Minnesota, and later at N. Y. Public and Columbia University libraries. Best known for her List of Subject Headings for Small Libraries, first published in 1923 and later called Sears List of Subject Headings. Although Sears regarded herself primarily as a cataloger, her work shows strong interest and achievement in reference, bibliography, and literary research. Many of her works are standard aids in collection building. By providing accurate cataloging copy in these compilations, Sears anticipated many modern trends in centralized and cooperative cataloging.
