“Costumes Turcs,” Les Nations. Album des Costumes de Tous les Pays

From Fashion Nation: Picturing the United States in the Long Nineteenth Century by Sandra Tomc

  • A Turkish couple, wearing splendid and colorful traditional clothing, plays with their pet bird. The man is dressed in satiny salvar, red boots, red embroidered shirt, and short blue vest. He wears two scabbards for his daggers and a white and blue turban. The woman is dressed in a shimmery green and gold gown with a pink underskirt. She wears a large amount of sparkling jewellery at her throat and in her long black hair. She laughs at a colourful bird flying before her.
