• Bernice Schipp traveled two hours on her weekends to volunteer her expertise in marketing advice and inventory analysis to Helaine Victoria Press. With her experience as merchandise manager for Abbey Press, the largest Catholic mail order company in the country, she created a system of logging sales and tracking inventory. She also was an expert at assembling postcards sets and was always available to discuss important business decisions.

From Women Making History: The Revolutionary Feminist Postcard Art of Helaine Victoria Press by Julia M. Allen and Jocelyn H. Cohen

  • Bernice Schipp’s most significant contribution, which only she could do, was logging all the orders, noting which cards or other items sold and how many. In this way, with a system she constructed for the press, she kept track of how well any given card sold. Note that her work predated the easy availability of computers.
