Women of History postcard accordion set, back cover

From Women Making History: The Revolutionary Feminist Postcard Art of Helaine Victoria Press by Julia M. Allen and Jocelyn H. Cohen

  • Jocelyn Cohen and Nancy Poore created this album shortly after setting up their letterpress shop in Indiana. The album front cover was semi embossed, that is, the title, “Women of History, An Album of Eight Postcards,” was printed with a lot of “punch,” so it created the look of embossing. Their new logo, Columbia, appeared on the back cover of the album. Although the two of them produced many ambitious pieces of ephemera, this may have been the most ambitious on every level. Eight new postcards in an elegant handmade album folder, designed, printed, and bound by Jocelyn Cohen and Nancy Poore. Printed letterpress in red, blue and silver detail, 4 ½” x 6 ½” with eight 4 ¼”x 6” postcards. The cards were hand glued into the album cover, then the cover was hand folded and the flap inserted into the die cut slit and closed. The album with the postcards constituted 18 press runs. They made 1000 copies of the album. The postcards were also available individually.
