  • The many effective illustrations in Red Cossack include a rousing front cover shown in Figure 6.10, showing a red-colored Cossack horseman galloping toward the reader; Cossack rank-and-file soldiers being beaten with a leather whip by their ataman (Figure 6.11); and at the end an embrace between a Bolshevik soldier and a newly recruited Cossack.
