• Page 51 →Aimee Semple McPherson (Canadian/American, 1890-1945). Evangelist, founder of the Foursquare Gospel denomination, based in Los Angeles. She provided many community services, but was more widely known for her show-biz flair. In 1926 she disappeared into the ocean at Santa Monica beach and was on front pages for 8 months. She reappeared at the Mexican border, alleging a kidnap plot. The case was never resolved.
