Michelle Cliff, from Abeng, broadside

From Women Making History: The Revolutionary Feminist Postcard Art of Helaine Victoria Press by Julia M. Allen and Jocelyn H. Cohen

  • One of a pair of fundraiser broadsides. Excerpt from Abeng printed in black, with deep red initial caps. The handmade paper is off white cotton rag sheet with a blue burlap ribbon and a beige manila hemp ribbon couched into the main sheet of paper, 12 ½” x 18”. The body type was dipped onto the press platen in two press runs as the sheet was too large for only one. 60 copies printed. 50 signed by Michelle Cliff and Jocelyn Cohen. An additional 200 copies were printed on machine-made Torino cover paper. The companion fundraiser broadside was excerpted from “Split at the Root,” an essay by Adrienne Rich.
