Equal Rights Amendment postcard, front

From Women Making History: The Revolutionary Feminist Postcard Art of Helaine Victoria Press by Julia M. Allen and Jocelyn H. Cohen

  • Postcard printed letterpress in black and white, 4 ¼” x 6”. The slogan “Stone Walls do not a Prison make, Nor iron Bars a Jail; But 'til the E.R.A. is Won, We're only Out On Bail” was re-used from the infamous ERA poster Helaine Victoria originally printed in 1975. They printed thousands of both the posters and the postcards. They utilized mostly found or reclaimed cardstock for the postcards, making them available either free or for $5. per 100 to NOW chapters, especially in Indiana, when passage of the ERA looked so possible.
