Waterfowl Covered in Oil

A dramatic event that drew more interest to environmental issues was the oil spill off of Santa Barbara, California, in 1969.

A tardy response by the oil company and politicians only made the matter worse. Cleanup came at the level of one waterfowl at a time, under a sink.
