- Helaine Victoria Press printed 100s of thousands of bookmarks to be given away with mail orders and at conferences and festivals. A bookmark was always added with the sale of every out-of-print book by and about women. This particular bookmark featured Ida B. Wells-Barnett. On most of the offset press runs, there was extra space in the margin, and Nancy Poore and Jocelyn Cohen had come with the idea to fill it with two or three bookmarks. After all, doing so did not add to the cost of the press run, just a little time to pre-press production, and what a bonus! This one, 7 ½” x 1 ½”, was printed in brown and blue; some also printed in sepia and orange. Later press runs included a longer description on the front: Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Black Civil Rights & Feminist Leader 1862-1931. Militant crusader for justice for Black Americans, and the moving force behind the anti-lynching campaign.
