Alice Ramsey, New York to Philadelphia Run, 1909. Alice Ramsey was the first woman to drive an automobile from coast to coast. Ramsey received considerable press because most drivers were male during the early 1900s. Although she encountered various mishaps, the company sponsor used the journey to tout the car’s reliability.
